So the semester is almost over. We are reviewing this week and final examening next week.

I really need to submit all my grad school applications. I should have already done that.

For a long time, Nicole and I have lived in at first different countries and lately different cities. However, soon that will be ending. After finals, we will be in the same city (except when she goes to Kenya). We will be in Nashville during Christmas. She is coming to Searcy next semester after returning from Kenya. It will be good to not have to travel so far to hang out with her.

Having been nearly a month since I last posted anything, I decided that it was well past due. I don't feel as if I have any really imporant things to report. I have done a lot of travelling over recent weekends, both for coaching Ultimate and visiting Nicole. This weekend my plan is to stay in Searcy. I hope to get in a lot of good ultimate in on Saturday. Also, hopefully I will be able to get ahead in all of my class planning activities.

Much to the chagrin of people like Luke Dockery and possibly Justin Bland (though he definitely would have been included in a similar point), but at the past tournament, which was the weekend after pledge week, we had an all TNT point. Handling we had Peter Jordan, Whit Jordan, and Will Woodruff. The cutters were Tyler Samuel, Ryan Rummage, Bryant Bumpus, and Jackson McDaniel. It was awesome. Too bad we did not have Justin Bland or Josh Murphy to join us (I will not mention people who are still at Harding but no longer play).

Yay Tennessee Titans!
Not so much Tennessee Vols.

Last Friday, October 10th, I proposed to Nicole, and she said yes!
We were at one of the Warner Parks (where we went during our first date) and hooked the swings together with a caribeener. We hung out and talked for a while, and eventually I read I Corinthians 13. Then we prayed. Then I knelt and asked. Probably not the most romantic thing ever, but she said yes.

So thus far this semester, I feel as if I have been very busy. I know that everyone always feels busy, so I don't think that it is anything abnormal, but I definitely have a pretty full schedule. Classes have been going pretty well, though I think that the test I gave this past week was probably too difficult.

One of the things that I have been trying to do this year is coaching the Harding Ultimate team, Apocalypse. It has been going pretty well. This past Thursday I felt like we had a really good practice. I am very excited about the team this year. Especially all of the new freshmen that have been coming out. It will be interesting seeing how they do once Itchfest rolls around on October 11-12. This past weekend I was impressed with how well the team played. One of the highlights of the tournament for me was the amazing patience of the handlers and the entire team on game point of their next to last game. I think there were at least one hundred completions in a row capped off by a diving touchdown.

So I am about to talk about my play. I know that it is not all about me. But I am going to mention some of my plays. You don't have to read if you don't want to.

I will mention a few other plays that I had. I'll go ahead and get the bad ones out of the way. In the early games on Saturday, I had some really bad throwaways. I think I threw it away 2 or 3 times in the same point once. Anyway, the very first game of the tournament, I thought I had some good throws, a flick up the line to G-Dub (which I then inflowed and jumped into the endzone for the goal) and a breaking the field backhand to Jordan in the endzone stand out. Also, in the final game of the tournament, unfortunately I got torched deep fairly early in the game. Also, it was right after Luke had said to play behind the man. After that, maybe the other team thought that they could pick on me. They kept throwing it the the guys that I was guarding, and I was fortunate enough to be able to defend.

The first one was a help defense where I basically got good position and although I dove, I did not actually touch the disc. Second was a deep throw to my man which I turned around at the last possible second and was able to knock down. Third was one that almost went over my head but I was able to barely touch it on my jump. It was then hovering so I had to hit it again to get it to the ground (as I hit it I thought "gratuitous defense"). Fourth was a cut up to the corner that I had to lay out for. I just barely got to the disc before he could catch it. Finally was a huge put to the endzone by the other team. I was partway up the field and was able to jump up and deflect it out of its intended path to force the incompletion. All in all, it was probably my best defensive game ever with those five touchdown-saving defensive plays. Unfortunately we lost the game at the cap. Boo.

Anyway,

Profe Jordán

Well, we did not have the most golds, but we did win the overall medal count. I like the olympics a lot. Some of my highlights were winning all of the volleyball golds, China not getting all 8 diving golds, Phelps (I am glad that he is an American), and the opening ceremony cookout that we had. I wish I could have seen a wider variety of sports, but I did have to do things besides just watch the Olympics.

Speaking of sports, College Football has started.

Harding University is now one week into its fall semester. That means that I have been teaching for a week. Teaching at Harding is much different from teaching in Mexico. At first I think I was doing too much similar to how I taught in Mexico, and I felt as if I was not doing a particularly good job, especially with our online program. However, as the week wore on, things started getting better. Hopefully that trend will continue.

Harding

I am now at Harding University.

I will be teaching some lower level Spanish classes. And the language labs for the 200 level classes. It will be very different from what I did in Mexico and very interesting trying to figure everything out. I am not sure if I know enough yet to be worried or not. I have everything pretty much set up in my room, and similar to the Israelites who entered the promised land and did not have to build anything, I am using someone else's office. Therefore, I did not really have to do very much there.

Hopefully everything will go smoothly and it will be a great transition.

By the way, in the approximately one month that I was back in Nashville, I enjoyed being there a lot. Spending time wth Nicole was wonderful. It was good to be with my family again.

The Tape

Today is Tuesday, July 15th. I am leaving Monterrey and returning home on Saturday, July 19th. The end is approaching rapidly. I can see the tape stretched across the finish line.

This past weekend was pretty cool. On Saturday at the church I got to help out with a VBS type thing. I was drafted as the cameraman, so I tried to do cool things like zoom in a lot on the hands when they were doing crafts and that type of thing. In addition to taping the VBS, I helped out in a few other ways and got to enjoy all the kids, many of whom I had never seen before, though I do not know if they were from nearby neighborhoods or other congregations. After VBS, we played soccer for maybe about three hours. We were all tired by the end, but my team won the final game 7-6.

On Sunday, we had a "Despedida." One married couple is leaving for a preaching school in Texas, a youth group girl is going to study English in Canada for a few months, and I am coming back home. So that is why we had a Good-Bye Party. We grilled out but not hamburgers, but rather some awesome Mexican dish. It was excellent. The members had written notes for the four of us, and they handed those to us and the husband and I both gave short speeches. Also, they had videos for all of us. They were awesome. It was a really good Despedida.

Hopefully I will be able to get the video and put it on You tube with all my others.
